Thanksgiving

Most of you know that Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I say probably because as a pastor, it is hard to beat Christmas and Easter. :>) But, there is something lovely about Thanksgiving. No crass commercialism. No one trying to hijack the holiday for profit. It is just plain and simple - pure thanksgiving with God and loved ones - I like that!

I meditated on some powerful verses regarding Thanksgiving this morning and want to share those with you. After you reflect on these passages, post a comment and let me know what you are most thankful for this year? I would love to hear from you.

Psalm 42:4 - These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.

Psalm 69:30 - I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 100:4 - Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Isaiah 51:3 - The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

Jonah 2:9 - But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."

1 Corinthians 1:4 - I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9:11 - You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Ephesians 5:4 - Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

What are you most thankful for this week?

May God bless you this Thanksgiving season.
